　　On the one hand, examinations lower the standards of teaching. Since teachers are often judged by examination results, they are reduced to training their students in exam techniques. No subjects can be taugh successfully with intent to take examinations. On the other hand, the most undesirablc effect is that examinations encourage bad study habits. As the examination score is the only criterion for his academic performance, a student is driven to memorize mechanically rather than to think creatively.

　　In fact, few of us admit that examinations can contribute anything reallyimportant to the students' academic development. If that is the case, why cannot we make a change and devise something more efficient and reliable than examinations?(153 words)

　　Tests are considered an effective way of measuring students' ability. But can they tell the whole story? And are they the only way to measure one's ability?

　　考試被視作衡量學生能力的一種有效方式。但是考試能反映全部水平嗎?考試是衡量一個人能力的唯一方式嗎?

　　These questions are worth discussing. Some say that tests can tell the whole story, because if you really understand, whenever and however to test you is no problem. But others disagree. They think tests are usually done on paper or in oral form instead of being done in practice. It is not necessarily the case that one who gets high scores in an intellectual test must be a talent.

　　這些問題值得討論。有人說考試能說明一切，因為如果你真正理解了，不管什么時候、通過何種方式來測試，你都沒有問題。但是有些人并不贊同。他們認為考試通常是在紙上或通過口頭形式，而非在實踐中完成的。在智力測試中取得高分的人一定是天才，事情并不一定是這樣的。

　　As I see it, tests are one of the most important ways to examine one's ability. If they can't, why do we have to face so many tests? At least, tests can help us be aware of our weaknesses or strengths. However, tests cannot tell the whole story. They cannot prove everything. We should prove our knowledge and ability by applying theory to practice. Tests are an important and effective way of measuring one's ability, but not the only way.(176 words)

　　Nowadays, people pay more attention to the children's education. With this great care，the students, especially the undergraduates, cheat in the exams, even in the undergraduate thesis. Thus, the loss of good faith results in a great many problems in our society.

　　如今，人們更加看重子女的教育。在這種關懷下，學生們在考試中作弊，甚至在畢業論文中抄襲，尤其是本科生。這樣，誠信的淪喪導致了我們社會的許多重大問題。

　　First of all, cheating will lead to an unfair competition, which will prevent the students from studying hard. They will think that the grades are gained so easily that they need not spending much time in leaming. Second, cheating will endaoger the students in the long run, for without learning students will learn little things in the college and they are not able to meet the need of the society after they take up a job. Last but not least, cheating will pose a great threat to our society, because it is a kind of loss of good faith and definitely will slow down the progress of our society.

　　首先， 作弊將導致不公平的競爭，這將使學生不再下工夫學習。他們會認為，得分是一件輕而易舉的事，因此他們無需花費時間學習。其次，從長遠看來，作弊會使學生陷入危機，因為學生在大學里不學無術，工作后就無法滿足社會需求。最后，很重要的一點是，作弊會對社會造成巨大的威脅，因為這是一種誠信的淪喪，勢必會減緩社會的進步。

　　Therefore, we should take effective measures as soon as possible to prevent cheating. On the one hand, the students should be educated to realize the danger of cheating in the exams or even the undergraduate thesis. On the other hand, strict punishment should be put into use.(198 words)

　　因此， 我們應盡早采取有效措施來防止作弊。一方面，應該教導學生，使他們意識到考試作弊或畢業論文抄襲的危險性。另一方面，應對作弊行為施以嚴懲。
